About meHey y'all, I am Brian Matilla and I am currently a first-year Ph.D. graduate student at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. Working under the direct supervision of Dr. Brian Mapes, our future research will focus on constructing a more user-friendly, statistically-contextualized case-finding system to discover and analyze extreme precipitation events across the world. From there, we will shift gears to analyzing simulations of
Most of my time goes to studying weather events around the world. Models, data analysis, observations, and even personal leisure, weather is an integral part of my life. It's what I want to do for the rest of my life. However, I do enjoy seeing the sights and just having a great time all around. From cruises in the Caribbean to hiking in the Rockies, I cannot recall a time where I have not been captivated by nature.
